The Plainsman Shoot...
The Plainsman Shoot itself is a variation of several different competitions that normally would have been shot over distances ranging from 500 to 1000 mtrs using single shot full bore rifles and so what we’ve done is effectively `scaled down` thus allowing us to `get the feel` of long range but using single shot carbines in pistol calibres over much reduced distances.
It is a competition held over 6 months…April-September and has a match score and an aggregate.
Equipment needed:-
Single shot carbine barrel length no more than 22ins. Calibre .30 min.
Pair of X sticks or shooting stick.
35rds. Ammunition.
Shooting glasses and ear defenders.
Equipment optional:-
Spotting scope.
Shot timer.
The Plainsman consists of three elements...
Each competitor is allowed 5 sighting rds that can be scoped.
1. 10rds at 50mtrs at 10 separate Buffalo sat using X sticks or shooting stick, (can be either seated or the ground). Whichever is more comfortable. It is timed; the scoring is as follows… A shot in the white circle scores 10pts. A shot in the black part of the Buffalo scores 5pts. A combination of time-score...Max score 100pts in the shortest time.
2. 10rds at 50mtrs on One Buffalo sat using X sticks or shooting stick, (can be either seated or the ground). Whichever is more comfortable. (Use of a scope is permitted) It has a 3 min time limit and the last min is called the scoring is as follows… A shot in the white circle scores 10pts. A shot in the black part of the Buffalo scores 5pts. Max score 100 pts. In the event of a draw the tightest group within the white determines the winner.
3. 10rds at 25 mtrs 1 rd one each Wolf (2) within a 12sec exposure. Repeated 5 times. Max score 100 pts. A shot in the white circle scores 10pts. A shot in the black part of the Wolf scores 5pts. In the event of a draw the most rds in or nearest to the white circle determines the winner
